I Did Everything Right—Still Got Passed Over.

I was having a conversation with a friend recently—someone I deeply respect. They've been loyal to their company for years. Showed up early. Delivered consistently. Took on extra work. Hit targets. Never complained.

So, when promotion season came around, they expected rightfully that it was their time. But it wasn’t.

Someone else got it. Someone everyone knew hadn’t put in half the effort. They were bitter. Disappointed. And questioning everything. And honestly? I understood.

Because that moment reminded me of something many professionals only realize when it’s already too late:

Hard work alone doesn’t guarantee promotion.

Sometimes, it’s not about how much effort you put in but about who the system chooses to see.

And in many cases, that decision has less to do with merit and more to do with visibility, relationships, and alignment. You can be brilliant and invisible at the same time.

Even when managers advocate for you, you might still hear:

“There’s no budget right now.”
Only to see the same budget magically appear for someone else.

It’s not fair but it’s real.

And if you’ve ever felt unseen, overlooked, or underappreciated at work despite doing your best this message is for you.

Not to make you feel worse.
But to help you shift strategy.

Because here’s what I’ve realized from reflecting on stories like my friend’s and from insights gathered from real experiences:
You can’t just do the work you need to work the system.

So, here’s what I want to do:
Let’s test a different approach. Together.

I’m inviting you to join me in a 2-step challenge designed to reposition yourself in the workplace not by playing dirty politics, but by becoming more visible, more aligned, and more strategic.

Let’s see if it truly works.

THE VISIBILITY CHALLENGE

🔹 Step 1: Map the Power Dynamics

“Who really has influence here?”

Make a list of 3–5 key players in your department or company. These could include:

  • Senior leaders who shape decisions

  • Line managers who influence outcomes

  • HR or promotion panel members

  • Project leads who work on high-impact initiatives

🎯 Action: Write their names down. Observe their interests, their priorities, their values.
🕒 Target Deadline: 7 days

🔹 Step 2: Build Strategic Visibility

“How can I show up in their line of sight—authentically?”

Here are some practical, non-cringy ways to do that:

  • Volunteer for high-impact or cross-functional projects

  • Ask for advice or feedback (people like being seen as helpful)

  • Speak up during meetings—ask thoughtful questions, share insights

  • Share updates with your manager or team—highlighting value, not bragging

  • Offer to support others; being a connector makes you memorable

🎯 Action: Choose 2–3 visibility strategies from the list and start applying them
🕒 Target Deadline: 30 days

Let’s be honest:
Promotion isn’t always about who worked the hardest, sometimes it’s about who the system couldn’t ignore. And that’s what we’re aiming for.

So, are you in?
Let’s experiment with this. Share your experience. Track your outcomes.
And let’s find out if being intentional about workplace dynamics really does change the game.

Because when you understand the system,
you stop blaming yourself.
And you start playing smarter.

🧠💼
Let’s go.

The Painful Reality of Life: When the Rain Stops, the Umbrella Becomes a Burden

Life often teaches us some of its harshest lessons through the simplest of metaphors. Consider the umbrella, a faithful companion during a storm. It shelters us, keeps us dry, and provides comfort against the elements. But once the rain ceases, that very umbrella, so crucial moments ago, becomes a cumbersome burden. This transition captures a painful truth about loyalty and human relationships: when the benefits cease, so too does the loyalty. In our lives, many people flock to us not for who we are but for the value we bring and the benefits they can derive from us. They thrive on the opportunities, support, and advantages we offer. As long as we are useful, as long as we can provide shelter from life's storms, we are cherished and needed. But when the rain stops—when the benefits diminish—these same people often disappear, leaving us to ponder the true nature of our connections. This realization can be incredibly disheartening. We yearn for genuine relationships, for loyalty that...

My 96-Hour Goose Chase

A few days ago, I embarked on a journey I never imagined I would experience. It all started with a simple goal: to clear a small debt that had been weighing on me. I thought that taking a small loan would be the best solution to get back on my feet and settle everything. Little did I know that this decision would lead me into a 96-hour goose chase that cost me time, money, and trust. I began my search for a loan online, and after some browsing, I came across a Finance company that seemed legitimate. I reached out to them, eager to resolve my situation. After completing all the necessary forms on their website, they informed me that my credit score was low and, therefore, I wouldn't be approved for the loan unless I paid an upfront amount equal to one month's repayment (450 AED). They assured me that this amount would be refunded once the loan was processed and credited to my account. Naively, I rushed to the ATM to deposit the requested amount. Here's a breakdown of what fo...
