A man with higher access to women can have more offspring, and thus increase his reproductive success. One man can have 1000 offspring with multiple partners.
A woman with higher access to men won’t have any more offspring than she could have had with regular access. But a woman with higher access to high-status men is more likely to have her offspring(s) survive and thrive.
