DEAR FUTURE SELF ✍🏿
As I sit here on this quiet morning, pen in hand, I can’t help but wonder about the path your life has taken. The dreams and aspirations that burned so brightly within me today — have they been realized or have they faded like smoke in the wind?
First, I must ask — are you still a writer? Do the words still flow from your fingertips like a river, carving new worlds and breathing life into characters? Or has the muse abandoned you, leaving you adrift in a sea of empty pages? I hope the passion that set your soul ablaze all those years ago still burns just as fiercely. Tell me, have you achieved any great accomplishments in your craft? Have your stories touched hearts and minds in ways you never imagined?
And what of music and fashion — those twin flames that danced within your heart? Do they still ignite your spirit, filling you with wonder and inspiration? Or have the cares of the world slowly smothered that sacred fire? I pray the melodies still sing to you, and that beauty in all its forms still moves you to tears of joy.
In this moment, I am an introvert, content to dwell in the quiet spaces between the noise. But you, future self, have you broken free of that shell? Have you spread your wings and embraced the vibrant world around you? Or do you still find solace in solitude, emerging only when the moon is high?
So much could have changed in the years that separate us. Loved ones may have departed, new faces may have entered your life’s story. Fortunes could have risen or fallen. But through it all, I hope you have remained true to yourself, honoring the person I am today while evolving into someone even better.
Share with me your joys and sorrows, your triumphs and struggles. For though we are divided by time’s relentless march, we are one — two versions of the same soul, united by the human experience. And perhaps, in reading these words, you will find solace, inspiration, or simply a reminder of who you once were.
Until we meet again, either in this life or the next,
Your younger self Real Olufemi Akintola
